Mandolins and Classical Music:
the new 2019/2020 Artistic Season

The Madeira Mandolin Orchestra's 2019/2020 Season opened for the first time at the 'Sunrise' Auditorium of the VIDAMAR Resort Hotel Madeira Congress Centre.

It was with a light and classical music program, to the sound of the mandolins, that the Madeira Mandolin Orchestra opened the 2019/2020 Artistic Season on September 4th, Wednesday.

This new season also marks the opening of the first concert in the new cultural space of the Orchestra: the VIDAMAR Resort Hotel Madeira Congress Centre.

Conducted by its artistic director, André Martins, the Orchestra took to the stage of the ‘Sunrise’ Auditorium with its 20 performers and had the special presence of the local singer Miguel Pires in some of the themes presented in this program.

The guest enchanted gifts with portuguese themes such as ‘Pomba Branca’ and ‘Noites da Madeira’, by Max, as well as other unforgettable international songs such as ‘What a Wonderful World’, ‘New York New York’, ‘My Way’ and ‘Summertime’.

Miguel Pires is a pianist, singer, announcer, DJ and animation consultant who, for this concert, performs for the first time with the Madeira Mandolin Orchestra.

Inserted in the “2019 Madeira Wine Festival”, the show “toasted” this regional and touristic celebration, with the music of one of the oldest orchestras in Europe, which already has more than 100 years of history.

Despite her olderness, it is one of the youngest in terms of its musicians, and is currently composed by30 members with the age 13-46.
